US lawmaker calls for ‘democratic Pakistan’

'I am extremely concerned about the reports that are coming out of Pakistan of human rights abuses'

US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, the founder and chair of the US House’s Congressional Pakistan Caucus, has said that she is “extremely concerned” about the reports human rights “abuses” in Pakistan and the lack of protection peaceful protesters.

In a tweet, she announced that she would write to US President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken and ask them to insist on the ending of these human rights violations against the opposition and others.

“I am extremely concerned about the reports that are coming out of Pakistan of human rights abuses and the lack of protection for those who express peaceful opposition to the government,”the congresswoman wrote.

“I will be writing to President Biden and Secretary of State Blinken to ask them to insist on the ending of these human rights violations against the opposition and others,” she said. “And additionally, to ensure that we continue to promote the US and Pakistani relationship and a democratic Pakistan,” she added.
