KARACHI:

The CCTV footage of a violent brawl involving men and women inside the elevator of a high-rise apartment building on Sea View, DHA, Phase-VIII, has gone viral on social media.

The Sahil Investigation Police swiftly apprehended the suspect involved in the scuffle that took place May 3 in the elevator of Emaar, North Tower, a posh residential building near Do Darya. Now it has turned out the suspect in custody is in fact the husband of the victim.

The video footage shows the women inside the elevator preventing other individuals from entering, which leads to a heated argument and then a scuffle. Shockingly, the video also captures a man involved in the scuffle trying to strangle one of the women before the building’s security guards intervene to defuse the situation.

Following the violent brawl, the victim’s husband emerged brandishing a weapon, and another video captured the scene which had gone viral on social media earlier.

According to police, Mohammad Adnan Rana was named as the accused in the case filed on May 18 by one Allah Jiwayo, son of Shamsuddin and resident of Flat No 305, 3rd Floor, North Tower Emaar. The complainant, a cook at the flat of Mohammad Imran, son of Mohammad Aslam Abro, stated that while waiting on the ground floor for the elevator with Mirza Khan and household goods, two women were already inside. As they proceeded to enter the elevator at around 11:30-12:30, the women began hurling abuses.

The complainant further stated that upon reaching the ground floor, the women called someone. Shortly thereafter, Rana arrived with three companions, one of whom was armed with a pistol. They assaulted them, with Rana attempting to shoot the complainant who miraculously survived.

The incident drew the attention of security personnel, who intervened, allowing the complainant and Mirza Khan to escape. Rana departed, hurling life threats. Several eyewitnesses, including Imran Abro, Hazar Khan and Abdul Nabi corroborated the complainant’s account. Abro also reported the incident on Madadgar 15 helpline. The complainant and Mirza Khan subsequently returned to their village, only to return on May 18 to file an official report.

The police promptly arrested Rana, who is currently in custody. Additional CCTV footage capturing the incident is being procured as part of the ongoing investigation. Notably, the recently surfaced footage from a hidden camera inside the elevator reveals that the individual verbally abusing the women is Abro’s cook. Abro himself can also be seen in the video.

The footage unequivocally exposes the man involved in the physical altercation with the women, gripping her by the neck and attempting to strike her. It is disconcerting to note that the cook, who had filed the case against the women and their family members, was actually the aggressor in the incident. The investigation continues to unravel the complexities surrounding this distressing incident.
