The SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), a prominent body in the South Asian region, is set to further strengthen industry, small and medium enterprises, agriculture, and intra-regional trade by establishing robust business connections among entrepreneurs.
This commitment was reiterated during the inauguration ceremony of the SAARC Chamber’s headquarters building, jointly led by Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Haji Ghulam Ali and outgoing President of the SAARC Chamber, Iftikhar Ali Malik.
Governor Ali highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding membership in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) since its inception in 1985. SAARC, an intergovernmental organisation promoting regional cooperation and economic integration among South Asian countries, provides a platform for fostering economic collaboration and enhancing trade, investment, and economic opportunities.
Acknowledging Pakistan’s active participation in SAARC Chamber activities, the K-P governor called on member countries to work towards preferential terms of trade and the gradual realisation of the SAARC economic and monetary union. He also commended the outgoing SAARC president for his contributions, having been elected unopposed as the vice president of the SAARC Chamber for ten consecutive terms, demonstrating his popularity among South Asia’s business community.
In his address, Malik highlighted that Pakistan has played a vital role in hosting events, conferences, and trade exhibitions, providing platforms to explore collaborative opportunities.
