RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) anticipates that the forthcoming budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 will prioritise growth, foster a favourable environment for industries, and effectively address the challenges faced by the ailing economy of Pakistan.

In his address at the 8th executive committee meeting held at the chamber house, RCCI President Saqib Rafiq articulated the business community's strong expectation for a comprehensive industrial package to provide them with relief from the current economic pressure.

He said: “The time has come to take hard decisions and adopt an export promotion strategy, set the right direction and we strongly demand that the basis of Pakistan's economy shall be on exports instead of imports.”

“We expect that the finance minister will introduce measures that will support and promote exports in the country. This can include incentives for export-oriented industries, facilitation of trade agreements, provision of export financing, and the development of export-related infrastructure,” he added.

He further said that RCCI has demanded that there is a need to bring non-tax paying sectors into the tax net.

He said that “We want to present and discuss budget proposals, key measures and recommendations on various sectors ranging from trade, taxation, tourism, SME, agriculture, livestock, IT, non-conventional sectors, gems stone, and on smuggling etc.”
