LHC orders immediate release of 123 PTI workers

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the immediate release of 123 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers who were detained by the district police.
The court deemed the detention order unconstitutional and ordered compensation of Rs5,000 per day for the unlawfully detained individuals.
Former minister of state Farrukh Habib was among those held under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law.
A writ petition was filed for the release of PTI workers.
In a ruling, Justice Amjad Rafeeq declared the arrest and detention of the workers illegal.
Meanwhile, the Central Jail administration reported that 86 people had been held under the MPO by the Faisalabad police and deputy commissioner, while 105 defendants were imprisoned in the jail for various offences.
The detained people will be released in accordance with the court order once the necessary procedures are completed.
