Activision Blizzard has confirmed that it will no longer plans to release the long-anticipated co-op Hero mode for Overwatch 2.
The game will only feature competitive multiplayer with occasional co-op events, just like its predecessor.
In 2019, the announcement of Overwatch 2 created a buzz with news of anticipated detailed Story Missions and Hero Missions, which woud have followed the story development for its fans.
According to a report, the Hero Missions would have let player groups defend maps from invading robots while leveling up to earn new abilities called Talents.

Blizzard was planning to sell Overwatch 2's PvE content and let players from Overwatch 1 transition to the sequel's multiplayer at no extra cost.
However, plans changed when last year, Overwatch 2 was released as a free-to-play competitive game that replaced its predecessor. Blizzard then promised to make a co-op mode later.
The company has recently said that Story Missions will still arrive with season 6 but the paid Hero Missions and Talent system is cancelled. Blizzard told Game Spot that the move was aimed to maintain the pace of new multiplayer content releases, which had slowed due to work on the Hero Missions.
Game director, Aaron Keller, said it would have taken several more years to make a co-op mode while siphoning development resources from the currently-available multiplayer.
