ISLAMABAD:

The National Assembly’s Special Committee has decided to summon former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar’s son, Najam Saqib, after the Federal Investigation Agency conducts the forensics of his purported audio leak to determine whether it is fake or not.

The committee also made summoning the Supreme Court registrar subject to the legal opinion of the law ministry, instructing it to give its stance by Monday. The Supreme Court had sought records of the parliamentary proceedings, on which PML-N MNAs had raised objections.

The decisions were taken during an in-camera meeting of the special committee, headed by Chairman Aslam Bhootani, on Friday.

The committee chairman said that summoning the Supreme Court registrar was a legal matter. “The committee does not want to do any work without getting a legal opinion.” On Monday, he said, the committee will consider the law ministry's opinion.

The chairman said instructions had been issued to the FIA for conducting a forensic of the purported audio leak of former chief justice's son. “The forensic report will determine whether the audio is genuine or fake.”

The FIA is expected to present its report on the audio to the committee in the next meeting.

Earlier, the committee had decided to call Najam and SC registrar to attend the meeting scheduled for Friday.

However, contrary to its decision, the committee did not summon either one of them.
