PTI protest continues on second day
The protests against the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan, from the premises of Islamabad High Court (IHC), continued in the city on Wednesday. Dozens of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, including women, gathered at the Millennium Mall on Dalmia Road to lodge their protest against the arrest of party chief.
Police arrested 40 people, including 13 women, and resorted to baton-charging and shelling to disperse the protestors, whereas unknown miscreants torched a police van near Safari Park. In some places protestors clashed with the police and pelted stones on the police. Shops and restaurants in the adjacent areas remained closed due to violence.
The police eventually controlled the situation and opened the Rashid Minhas Road and Dalmia Road for traffic. Tension prevailed until late at night in the most areas and patrolling of police mobiles was increased.
