Panel probing ex-CJP’s son audio leak meets today
The meeting of the special committee established to investigate the alleged audio leak of Najam Saqib, son of former Supreme Court chief justice Saqib Nisar, has been summoned by National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Tuesday (today).
The 10-member panel will meet under the chairmanship of Aslam Bhootani at the Parliament House.
The meeting will decide the terms of reference to probe the audio leak.
On April 29, a clip purportedly featuring voice of Najam Saqib emerged, demanding a “reward” for a “job done for a PTI ticket candidate”.
In the audio, Najam can allegedly be heard saying to the person on the other end, believed to be PTI ticket hopeful Abuzar Chaddhar, that his father had worked very hard to get the job done.
Chaddhar can purportedly be heard saying that he would come to meet the former chief justice after submitting the ticket.
The voice believed to be of Najam can also be heard asking Chaddhar to meet his father the same day. Meanwhile, in conversation with another caller Mian Uzair, Najam allegedly asks for “not only delivery of the goods, don’t take less than 120”.
Subsequently, the National Assembly had approved a motion authorising the speaker to constitute a committee to probe the audio clip.
Bhootani had earlier said the probe could not move forward if Nisar, Najam and the person being heard in the audio leak did not come forward and record their statements.
