Information Ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon and Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla on Tuesday said that a bumper crop of 3.6 million tons of wheat has been harvested in Sindh this year, which is two million tons more than last year.
"The credit goes to the leadership of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for fixing the support price of wheat at Rs4,000 per 4okg,” said sharjeel.
Speaking to the reporters at the Sindh Assembly Media Corner, the provincial ministers, Sharjeel and Chawla, said that the Sindh government has set a wheat procurement target of 1.4 million tons this year and 7.5 million tons has been achieved till date. Sindh government will achieve 100% of the target in May.
Sharjeel said that the Sindh government has imposed a ban so that wheat cannot be smuggled out. He added that enough wheat stock is available with Sindh government, and the flour mills of Karachi are being supplied wheat at a rate of Rs10,500 per sack on a daily basis.
"Sindh government stands by its words committed to the Karachi flour mills. Till date, the target of supplying 500,000 sacks to Flour Mills Association will be completed," he said. The owners of the flour mills should submit their challans and wheat supply will be ensured to them as per their requirements.
