RAWALPINDI:

The Civil Defence Department Friday recovered a mortar shell on the bank of Nullah Leh within the limits of Ratta Amral police station and safely defused it.

According to a spokesperson for the department, the shell was found covered with mud.

The bomb disposal squad of the Civil Defense Department took out the artillery shell from the mud in a very safe manner and defused it, he added.

Meanwhile, the police filed a report and started, and inquiry to see how the explosive ended up there.

However, sources said soil and moisture had rendered the gunpowder in this shell ineffective.
