A police constable was shot dead on the outskirts of Peshawar on Sunday.
Police told The Express Tribune that Constable Ibrar was on his way back home when four armed men, riding two motorcycles opened fire on him in the Chamkani area, killing him on the spot.
“Ibrar was an elite force commando and deployed at intelligence bureau (IB) as guard. He finished his duty and was going home when targeted,” said a police official, adding that the attackers managed to escape after committing the crime.
“The deceased was rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead,” he said, adding that the body was sent for autopsy and police registered an FIR against the unidentified attackers.
The deceased was also on his bike when targeted.
A large contingent of police reached the site of the attack and launched a door-to-door search operation but there was no sign of the attackers.
Targeted attacks at police have increased manifold since the fall of Kabul to Taliban after the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan.
