LAHORE:

PML-N supremo and former premier Nawaz Sharif on Sunday, instructed his younger brother, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to reduce the prices of essential items to which the premier assured him that a relief package would be introduced soon.

During a huddle of the PML-N bigwigs in Lahore, Nawaz, who was participating in it via video link, maintained that his party-led coalition government was holding talks with the PTI for the sake of national interest even though there were no guarantors for the people who had damaged the country for 3.5 years.

His remarks came as the PML-N-led coalition government was engaged in talks with opposition PTI to reach a consensus on a date for elections.

Nawaz claimed that nobody was willing to give the guarantee for the PTI, which had spent its tenure on achieving its personnel goals and defaming the country as well as its institutions.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the political, economic and legal aspects of Punjab.

The PML-N supremo stressed the need for addressing the woes of the people, including the spiralling inflation, at the earliest.

Nawaz directed his party members to take the allied parties on board before reaching a decision on the same day elections and other matters.

He added that policies to provide relief to the people should be formulated before the elections.

“Every political party should play its role for the country and its people,” he continued.

He maintained that his party, when it was in power, had worked tirelessly day and night for placing the country on the path to development.

However, he added that the “enemies of the country” had pushed all its hard work down the drain in 3.5 years and the people would never forgive them for it.

The premier quoted his brother as saying that there were people who just could not digest progress and prosperity, in an in an indirect reference to the PTI.

He added that Nawaz had advised the public to steer clear of such people.

PM Shehbaz said it had been a year since his party and its allies were working hard to overcome the challenges faced by the country.

The premier added that the people would soon receive a relief package.

He continued that the package would lessen the peopl's burden caused by the rising prices of essential commodities.
