Imran shuffles Punjab tickets after workers protest
After the protest of workers, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday revisited his decision on Punjab election contenders and the parliamentary board issued tickets to 32 candidates after reviewing the award of tickets for the provincial assembly.
PTI General Secretary Asad Umar stated that for the Punjab election, PTI withdrew 21 party tickets and issued them to new candidates.
He added that nine new candidates have also been issued tickets by the PTI.
On the other hand, PTI leader Azhar Mashwani has released a list regarding distribution of the 32 tickets issued in Punjab.
There was a widespread uproar among party ranks on this issue, which forced the PTI chief to backtrack on his electoral picks to resolve the issue before crucial polls.
“I will begin the tickets review process from tomorrow till 26th of cases sent to me by the four Reconciliation Committees that were formed for this purpose,” Imran Khan had tweeted on Friday.
Supporters of some aspirants had already begun protests, seeking a review of the decision to award tickets for their constituencies – even before the party chief began the review process.
