RAWALPINDI:

The returning officers have allotted election symbols to all the candidates vying for 15 seats in the Punjab Assembly of the Rawalpindi district.

The candidates of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been given the election symbol of a cricket bat, the symbol of a crane was allotted to the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), Jamat-e-Islami (JI) was given scale and the Pakistan Peoples’ Party received arrow as election symbols while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has completely gone out of the political scene as none of its candidates submitted the nomination papers.

The final list of candidates will be released on Thursday [today].

Sources said despite non-provision of the election stationary, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has prepared a temporary polling scheme on its own for the total 27 seats of the Punjab Assembly of four districts of the Rawalpindi Division including Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock and Jhelum.

The temporary polling scheme will have a total of 5,928 polling stations, 16,484 polling booths, 5,928 presiding officers, 32,968 assistant presiding officers and 16,484 polling officers for transparent elections and it will be finalised after the objections.

The provisional polling scheme will be finalised after consultation with the candidates of all the political parties.
