Action ordered over condition of school

Local residents complained of safety, health risks to girls

BALAKOT:

The Punjab Education Initiative Management Authority (PEIMA) has reportedly ordered the district education authority chief executive officer (CEO) to look into the deteriorating condition of a government girls’ primary school in the Katahra area.

According to sources in the department, Additional Director Programme Ghayas Sabir has ordered the CEO to review the situation.

Local residents had complained that the school lacked basic facilities.

They said the conditions as the girls’ school had been deteriorating and it lacked furniture, toilets, boundary wall and a main gate.

The playground and courtyard were filled with sewerage water and the roofs of the classrooms leaked during rain, they added.

A resident of the locality said the windows of the dilapidated rooms were also broken and there was no provision for clean drinking water. He said the local girls had been forced to attend classes in unsafe and unhealthy conditions.

The PEIMA ordered Sialkot District Education Authority CEO Tariq Hameed Rathor and other official concerned to immediately take effective measures to address the situation at the school.
