Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday felicitated overseas Pakistanis and Muslims around the world on the occasion of Eidul Fitr.

In an early morning tweet, the premier wished Muslims a happy and blessed Eid and “prayed to the Almighty to accept our worship and forgive sins”.

The Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Turkey, Afghanistan, Yemen, Sudan, Jordan and Egypt, as well as Muslims in United Sates, England and Europe, are celebrating Eidul Fitr today.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s official moon-sighting committee announced it did not receive any testimony about sightings of the Shawwal moon from any part of the country and that Eidul Fitr will be celebrated in Pakistan on April 22 (tomorrow).

The timing of Eidul Fitr is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon, in accordance with the Muslim lunar calendar. The holiday is normally celebrated with family gatherings.

The government has announced a five-day public holiday in view of Eid celebrations. The holidays will begin from Friday [today] and will continue till Tuesday, April 25, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior.
