Sindh steps up sanitation efforts with new tenders, plans

Steps taken to provide space to the concerned company for a study on landfill site for the Waste to Energy initiative

Tenders have been recently released to implement a waste management system in District East, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad. The tenders include the collection of garbage and the analysis required for the successful execution of the waste management process.

This was decided in the 19th board meeting held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Sindh Local Government Minister and Chairman of Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah. During the meeting, several decisions were made to improve the solid waste management system in various districts of Sindh.

Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah directed to include Sanghar, Khairpur, Dadu, Sehwan, and other big cities of Sindh, including district headquarters, in the solid waste management system so that the sanitation situation can be improved.

Present at the meeting were Additional Chief Secretary Syed Najam Shah, MD Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah, and other officials. The board approved the operation of landfill sites in District South, East, West, and Malir from GTS.

In addition, the board approved the hiring of an external audit firm as part of the additional agenda in the meeting. Steps were also directed to provide space to the concerned company for a study on the landfill site for the Waste to Energy initiative.

Furthermore, the board instructed the HR Committee to submit recommendations for an increase in the salary of contract employees.
