IHC upholds Shandana’s re-nomination

ECP had rejected her re-nomination in favour of another PTI member

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued a significant ruling, upholding the re-nomination of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Shandana Gulzar on a National Assembly’s reserved seat.

The court annulled the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of rejecting Shandana's re-nomination.

The issue arose when Shandana, a prominent PTI member, resigned from her seat in the NA, which was reserved for women and the ECP notified Roheela Hamid, who was included in the replacement list for Shandana, as an assembly member, stating that the name of a resigned member could not be included in the priority list for re-election.

However, Shandana was dissatisfied with the ECP's decision and decided to challenge it in the high court. She filed a petition against the ECP's decision, seeking the court's intervention in the matter.

IHC’s Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb heard the arguments of both the parties and reserved its decision on the petition.

Shandana was represented in court by her lawyer, Barrister Atif Rahim Burki, who presented a compelling case in favour of his client.

After careful consideration of the arguments presented, the IHC ultimately ruled in Shandana's favour.

The court accepted her petition against the ECP's decision, annulling the rejection of her re-nomination.
