Veteran actor Khalid Said Butt passes away

His son, actor Osman Khalid Butt, took to Twitter to confirm the news

Dr Khalid Said Butt, veteran actor, director and screenwriter, passed away peacefully on Thursday night. His son, actor Osman Khalid Butt took to Twitter to confirm the news and announce details about his funeral while asking fans and family to pray for the departed soul.

Early Friday morning, Osman took shared a picture of his late father on the micro-blogging site. “Our beloved father, Dr Khalid Said Butt, passed away peacefully on the night of the 13th,” he wrote, “As per his wishes, his Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayers) will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday at Khalid Masjid, Cavalry Ground Extension, Lahore,” added Butt.

The Ehd-e-Wafa star went on to list down the numerous achievements of his father and promised fans that he would eventually elaborate on them. “His accomplishments in the field of arts are manifold and his contribution to Pakistan’s arts and culture is immeasurable. In time, we will speak about these in detail,” he tweeted.

Mentioning the multiple roles and responsibilities Dr Khalid assumed in his lifetime, Osman continued, “He was the Founding Director General of the Pakistan National Council of the Arts, former DG of Lok Virsa, former MD NAFDAC, and former DG National Hijra Council. He was an esteemed actor, director and writer of stage and screen, responsible for launching the careers of many legends. He was the recipient of many awards, including the Pride of Performance from the Government of Pakistan and the Officer de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the Government of France.”

In the end, Osman asked fans to “say a prayer” for his late father and signed off with his name and that of his siblings; Omar and Michelle. He reiterated, “This is truly a tremendous loss.”
