ISLAMABAD:

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial has said authorities have burdened the industries with additional taxes which are destroying them.

“Additional taxes are destroying industries in the country,” the CJP said while hearing a slew of petitions filed against Sindh Sales Tax 2011.

During the hearing, the top judge who was leading a three-member bench said the issue of imposition of additional taxes on industries needs to be looked into.

Later, the hearing of the case was adjourned till the first week of June.

The provincial government had imposed Sindh Sales Tax on services in 2011, which was challenged by the private companies. The bench is hearing the case on the request of the Sindh Revenue Board.
