‘28 cases filed against Imran’ in Islamabad

IHC provides police, FIA reports to petitioner

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court was informed on Tuesday that 28 cases, including the one related to prohibited funding filed by the Federal Investigation Agency, have been registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan at various police stations.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the request for providing details of the cases registered against the former prime minister in Islamabad.

The court provided the police and FIA reports to the petitioner.

According to the written report submitted by the police and FIA, there were 29 cases registered against Imran in Islamabad.

The state counsel said that 28 cases had been registered against Imran by police and one case by the FIA. However, the IHC dismissed one case.

Advocate Faisal Chaudhary said, “If there is one case, it is understandable, but there are many here. We have been asked to join the investigation but no one picks up the phone.”

The court, while disposing of the petition, directed the police officials to sit and look at the whole situation and stay in touch with Imran’s lawyer Faisal.

Details

Fifteen cases were registered against the PTI chairman at different police stations of Islamabad on the same day, however, one of them was dismissed.

Seven cases were under investigation while 20 were pending in the trial court.

The FIA's case of prohibited funding under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act was being heard in the banking court.

A report submitted to the IHC revealed that 15 cases were registered in a single day against Imran, which were registered at different police stations a day after the protest on May 25 last year.

The court dismissed the case registered in Tarnool police station on May 26, but other cases were in the stages of investigation or trial.

On May 25, the day of the PTI long march, a case was registered at the Karachi Company police station.

Two cases of 2014 were also included in the list of cases against Imran.

On March 14, 2023, three new cases were filed.

According to the police report, 28 cases were registered against Imran, of which one case was dismissed, seven cases were under investigation and 20 cases pending in the trial court.

JIT

The joint investigation team formed by the caretaker Punjab government has identified 25 more PTI leaders and workers accused of pelting stones and attacking police vehicles through geo-fencing.

Sources said police teams had been formed to arrest the accused named in 10 cases already filed.

“There are around 25 named and unidentified people accused in 10 cases against the PTI.”

The sources said, “Police have arrested 252 accused so far for pelting stones on police and attacking police vehicles.”

The JIT team is conducting an investigation in the light of CCTV footage and other evidence.
