Fasting throughout the Ramazan can become taxing for some individuals, especially if the holy month occurs during the summer.
Likewise, staying fit can be difficult due to the changes in eating and sleeping patterns, as well as the scorching heat outside. To counter the dehydration and heat, here is a list of things you can do, according to the Hindustan Times, to keep yourself hydrated and healthy during the day.
1. Drink enough water
Drinking enough water during sehri is a simple and essential approach to remaining hydrated. According to several studies, a minimum of 60 ounces or approximately 2 litres of water can help you stay hydrated for a full day during the summer fast. The trick is to sip slowly rather than drink all at once. Water-rich meals like cucumber, tomato salad, and juicy fruits like watermelon, oranges, kiwi, and others can help you stay hydrated throughout the day.
2. Eating light is the key
Sehri meals should be light and nutritious. If you believe that eating a lot would keep you full all day, you are mistaken. The idea is to eat a high-fibre diet that will keep you energetic throughout the day. Even a teaspoon of yoghurt might help! Consuming yoghurt at the end of your sehri meal will help soothe your stomach and prevent acidity, ultimately keeping you hydrated.
3. Fixing your sleeping pattern
Obtaining enough sleep is one of the most important aspects of remaining healthy when fasting and getting up early in the morning is proven to offer several advantages. Regardless of how exhausted you are, it is critical that you set your alarm at least 40-50 minutes before fajr in order to get up on time, prepare the meal, freshen yourself, and enjoy it. This is advised since the human body need time to digest the first meal consumed at daybreak. On the other side, gulping down food is also harmful if you consume everything in the last 5-10 minutes of sehri, so do avoid that too!
4. Avoid spicy foods
Keeping spice, salt, and sugar to a minimum in your meal may help you avoid feeling thirsty. The sodium in these meals aids in fluid equilibrium throughout your body. When you ingest salty meals, water is pulled out from your cells, causing thirst. Apple and bananas are advised since they provide roughage to your diet. Both fruits are low in calories and abundant in essential nutrients such as fibre, Vitamin C, and different antioxidants that may keep you feeling engergised.
