Pakistan Day: Behroze Sabzwari, Qavi Khan, others conferred with civil honours

People from all fields were awarded including sports, social work, and the entertainment industry

On March 23, President Dr Arif Alvi conferred Pakistan’s civil awards on 135 citizens and foreign nationals on Pakistan Day, in recognition of their excellence and gallantry in their respective fields. Included in the list were numerous celebrities such as the late Qavi Khan and Behroze Sabzwari.

The awards were held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, attended by the cabinet members, diplomats and family members of the recipients of the accolades. The president distributed the civil awards in ten categories including Nishan-i-Imtiaz, Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Hilal-i-Quaid-Azam, Sitara-i-Shujaat, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Presidential Award for Pride of Performance, Tamgha-i-Shujaata and Tamgha-i-Khidmat.

The president conferred Nishan-i-Imtiaz to Ahmed Ali Chagla (art), late Sufi Ghulam Tabassum (poetry), and the late Muhammad Qavi Khan (drama, film). Among others, the Hilal-i-Imtiaz award was presented to Raees Ahmed (arts) and late Amjad Islam Amjad (arts).

The Sitara-i-Imtiaz award was given to Behroze Sabzwari and Tariq Mahmood (art), Fakhar-e-Alam (hosting), late Saghar Siddiqui (poetry), and the late Shama Khalid (art).

Taking to Instagram, actor Shahroz Sabzwari penned a heartfelt message for his father's big win. "A very proud day for us to celebrate my father receiving this honour from the President of The Islamic Republic of Pakistan. You deserve this father, your family and country are proud of you," he said.

Late film director and writer Riaz Shahid was also bestowed the honour of Sitara-i-Imtiaz. Shaan Shahid, his son and popular actor took to his social media to reveal the brilliant news. "A proud moment for me. Today Riaz Shahid, my father was awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz. Thankyou Pakistan for honouring your own," wrote the Waar star.

The Presidential Award for Pride of Performance was distributed to Anjum Shaheen (acting); Taskeen Zafar, Syed Shamoon Hashmi and late Professor Jahazeb Niaz Khan (art), while Tamgha-i-Imtiaz was recieved by Rustam Ali Lone (art), Arif Khan (art), Nigar Nazar (art), amongst many others.
