To celebrate 25 years, Mozilla has launched an AI startup called Mozilla.ai. With a seed investment of $30 million from the Mozilla foundation, the new startup will be a mix of a research firm and a community space.
The company has been working on the project for the last five years. Considering the recent rush of announcing AI platforms without looking into the possible aftermath of it, Mozilla as a platform wants to build an open-source and 'trustworthy' AI.
As per the head of the startup, Mark Surmon, "Mozilla.ai — working loosely with many allied companies, researchers and governments — [has] the opportunity to collectively create a 'trust first' open source AI stack."
Unlike the Mozilla Foundation, the new startup is not nonprofit, so it will explore different kinds of projects.
