Singer Aima Baig has served a legal notice to a local media outlet that dug out an old interview of hers to "falsely" report that she had said she had a crush on her brother, who’s seven years older than her.
Disgusted by the "shameless yellow journalism" and allegations put against her, the Baazi crooner, on Friday, shared pictures of the court document on her Instagram Story and urged her industry colleagues also to take a stand against "fake reporting".
"This is high time when we should stand against yellow journalism and fake reporting (which is only done for the sake of comments and likes). I have had enough, so I am standing up for myself and many others from becoming their next prey," penned Baig, while sharing photos of the notice.
"A perusal of impugned news/post/story makes it abundantly clear, that you have purposely lied to the public with the culpable malicious intention to defame my client," read the legal document shared online. The notice also stated that the digital media outlet "attributed an untrue, false, and scandalous statement" to Baig and "spread the fake news" that she had a crush on her elder brother.
The document further read, "A clear and impartial listening of the old interview of my client referred to by you in your post/story, would reveal without room for any doubt that my client never made such a statement which you have attributed to her. It is abundantly clear that you yourself have misused the content of her interview and distorted it, and deliberately with a mala fide intention picked it out of context and misapplied it in your condemnable act to tarnish the reputation and fame of my client."
The defamation suit demanded Rs100 million in damages from the publication and to "tender an unconditional and written apology within 48 hours" of receiving the notice. The apology as stated in the suit should also be published on all their social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, with the untrue news report deleted as well.
