LAHORE:

Political parties on Friday submitted the names of their nominees for the reserved seats in Punjab Assembly to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Dr Yasmin Rashid topped the priority list submitted by the party, followed by Mussarat Jamshed Cheema, Batool Janjua, Firdous Rai, and Shahida Malika.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) nominated Zakiya Khan, Begum lshrat Ashraf, Sania Ashiq Jabeen, Salma Saadia Temur, and Mehwish Sultana in this particular order.

Other parties, including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) also nominated their candidates.

The provincial assembly’s elections are scheduled to be held on April 30.

The Punjab Assembly is composed of 371 seats, comprising 297 general seats that are filled through first-past-the-post voting in single-member constituencies. Meanwhile, 66 seats are set aside for women, while 8 seats are reserved for non-Muslims.

The allocation of members to these seats is determined through proportional representation, which takes into account the total number of general seats won by each political party.
