The Punjab government launched a program to distribute 30kgs of "free flour" to 1.8 million households during the holy month of Ramazan, with a subsidy of Rs53 billion, said Secretary Food Punjab Muhammad Zaman Wattoo.
He issued the statement on Wednesday during the program's trial run at Chak 119/13AL Kassowal. Deputy Commissioner Sahiwal Captain retired Ikramul Haq and SNA Khurram Saleem were also present.
According to the Secretary, the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) survey is being utilized to distribute free flour to deserving households. The initiative will start on March 16 in Sahiwal and Chichawatni, commencing throughout all of Punjab on March 18, he added.
As many as 190,000 beneficiaries in Sahiwal district would receive three free sacks of flour for each family during Ramazan, Deputy Commissioner Ikram-ul-Haq said. Around 45 flour sale points, 110 Ehsaas ration program registered shops and 59 utility stores would all be able to provide this flour to families.
