A girl was found with multiple stab wounds and died shortly after in Hyderabad but was able to name the man she said responsible for her murder.
Locals found the body of the 16-year-old girl on Gulistan-e-Sarmast Road in Latifabad’s Kohsar area on Tuesday. She was lying on the ground and soaked in blood.
They recorded a video of the girl in which she named Ghayoor Abbas Kalyar and unknown men for the attack. “Water, water, give me some water,” the girl kept crying as the man recording her video testimony asked her the names of the men who had assaulted her.
The police shifted the body to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The incident happened in the remits of Airport police check post. Sub Inspector Azizullah, in charge of the check post, confirmed that Kalyar was arrested a few hours after the incident.
“He claims that he had gone on a date with the girl. During the date, he got carried away and stabbed her,” Azizullah said quoting Kalyar.
But the statement raises the question why would a person go on a date armed with a knife. Police have recovered a kitchen knife believed to have been used in the attack.
A health official at Liaquat University Hospital, where the post-mortem was performed, told The Express Tribune that the teenager sustained two stab wounds in her chest and one in her hand. Excessive bleeding is believed to have caused her death.
The Airport police lodged the first information report (FIR) on the complaint of the girl’s uncle Aashiq Hussain Mashori. It has been registered under Sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape), 511 (attempt to commit punishable offences) and 34 (common intention) of Pakistan Penal Code.
The FIR stated that the victim left the house for a salon at around 6pm on Monday and never returned. Around midnight, the police came to their relative’s house and informed them about the body. The family accompanied the police to the hospital, where they identified the victim.
The family also identified Kalyar, named in the video by the daughter, as their neighbour in Wahdat Colony.
However, they did not know the other man Dawood whose name was also reportedly taken by the victim.
