WSSP initiates cleaning of canal

Waste bins installed at various locations to prevent littering and waste dumping in the canal

PESHAWAR:

Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) started cleaning of Hazar Khwani Branch Canal at Yakatoot following orders of Peshawar High Court (PHC), said a press statement issued here on Thursday.

According to WSSP, waste bins have also been installed at various locations from Bairy Bagh to Cemetery to prevent littering and waste dumping in the canal.

It is pertinent to mention here that the irrigation department is responsible for the cleaning of the canals but WSSP management has initiated de-silting in accordance with court orders to clean the canal and launch an awareness campaign. “We are committed to fulfilling our responsibilities regarding the cleanliness and sanitation of the city. The Yakatoot Canal cleaning campaign and awareness drive prove the commitment of WSSP to keep the environment clean,” said Chief Executive Officer of WSSP Dr Hassan Nasir while commenting on the canal cleaning campaign.
