Cops arrested for kidnapping

Officials, including SHO, suspended, probe ordered

The Korangi Industrial Area police recovered Shehbaz, the owner of a car showroom who was kidnapped from Darussalam Society, during an operation near Korangi Bund.

According to SSP Korangi Sajid Amir Sadozai, three kidnappers including a police constable were arrested and weapons and vehicles were recovered from their possession.

The arrested accused, Sohail Hassan is a police constable deputed at Sukhan police station, Malir, while Bilal is an official of Police Qaumi Razakaar and the third kidnapper Shehzad is a civilian. According to Korangi SSP Sajid Sadozai, the accused had kidnapped a showroom owner Shehbaz and demanded Rs2 million ransom for his release, while the deal was finalised for Rs0.3 million. After the abduction, the accused kept moving the kidnapped Shehbaz in different areas of Malir and tortured him by applying electric current on his body parts.

Shehbaz informed the police that the accused had also withdrawn money from his account using his ATM card.

According to SSP Korangi, the accused changed three locations to collect the ransom, but the police arrested the accused. The American national wife of the kidnaping victim stayed with them throughout the raid and the she lauded the successful operation by the police. The process of further investigation of the arrested accused by Korangi police is going on.

Illegal detention

A magistrate recovered a citizen, Hassan, from a ‘private torture cell’ of the Quaidabad police station. Cops had locked up Hassan in a cell at the precinct and demanded payment of Rs0.5 million from his wife. Hasan’s wife Maham filed a petition in the Malir Court through her lawyer Raza Ali Khaki stating that her husband Hassan was kidnapped by Quaidabad police. She said two men in civil dress came and forcibly took her husband on a motorcycle. The kidnappers were identified as Rafiullah Marwat and Shah Khalid, who are stated to be the operatives of Quaidabad SHO.

The plaintiff says that after picking up her husband, they demanded Rs0.5 million from her and said that if she did not pay the required amount, they will lock up her husband in fake case of ice and hashish.

On the other hand, SSP Malir Hassan Sardar Niazi, taking notice of the issue of keeping citizen Hassan and keeping him in forced-confinement in Quaidabad police station, suspended two officials including SHO Quaidabad and ordered DSP Quaidabad to conduct an inquiry of the matter.

SSP Malir says that strict action will be taken against the officials involved in this incident.
