The Sindh High Court (SHC) has reserved a verdict regarding a plea regarding pension payments of a librarian who worked for 34 years at the University of Karachi (KU).
A two-member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro heard the petition.
The petitioner's counsel stated that Arifa Siddiqui spent 34 years working at KU as a librarian but the administration was not paying her pension benefits.
The court had previously issued a settlement order, the counsel said, but KU was not carrying it out.
The bench asked the registrar what it took the syndicate till 2018 to confirm the appointment of a person hired in 1987.
"I am a professor of economics who also serves additional duties as the registrar and have little knowledge of the case," the registrar said.
Justice Kalhoro remarked that appointing teachers for administrative positions was a breach of the SHC ruling.
It also reprimanded the registrar for appearing before the court without knowing about the case.
The court reserved the decision and adjourned the hearing.
