ECP issues notification for LG polls

PPP remains on top with 84 seats followed by JI with 82 seats

The Election Commission of Pakistan Sindh has issued the official notifications of the successful candidates of the second phase of the local government election held in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions.

According to the results, there is an interesting situation in Karachi where Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has 84 seats in the house of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) while Jamaat e Islami (JI) is on second position with 82 seats. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is on third number with 40 seats followed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) five, Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazal (JUIF) three and an independent candidate. Results on 20 seats have been held due to some reasons while 11 seats are vacant due to deaths of the candidates.

After many decades, the mayor of Hyderabad will be from PPP. Moreover, PPP has emerged in majority in the district councils, town councils, town committees and municipal committees of different districts.

The elections were held on 235 seats of the chairman and vice chairman out of 276 in the 20 towns of the Karachi. The Election commission issued notifications of the victory of 215 chairmen and vice chairmen while results of 20 seats were withheld. In the District Hyderabad, PPP has 93 seats out of 160 of the chairman and vice chairman.

PTI has 39, independents are 13, TLP 2 and JI won one seat. No elections for chairman and vice chairman were held on five seats due to deaths of the candidates. The election commission also withheld results of seven seats.

The election commission has issued notifications of successful candidates regarding elections in the town municipal corporations of Nairoon Kot, Mian Sarfaraz, Preetabad, Tando Jam, Tando Fazal, Sachal Sarmast, Shah Lateefabad, Hussainabad, Qasimabad. PPP secured 95 out of 160, PTI 39, independent 14, and TLP won two TMC seats according to the notifications. Six candidates have died while results of four seats were withheld.

PPP made clean sweep by winning 35 seats in the district council Sujawal, while two seats went to independents. PPP also won all seats of Darro, Jati, Choharr Jamali, Sujawal Town and Mir pur Bathoro TMCs. PPP also secured 62 seats out of the 68 seats of the Badin District Council while GDA got three. For Badin TMC, PPP got 12, and GDA and PTI won one seat each.

In TMC Matli, PPP won 11 seats while an independent candidate got one, similarly, PPP won all six seats of the Karrio Ghanwar TMC, while in Kidhan TMC, GDA won two, PPP and independent got one seat each.

In TMC the municipal committee of district Thatta, PPP won all nine seats of Thatta district council and bagged 38 seats out of 40 seats of Thatta TMC. PPP also won seven seats of Makli TMC and 11 of Gharo TMC. For TMC Mirpur Sakro, independents won two and PPP got one, while for Ghora Bari TMC notification for success of two PPP seats was issued.
