Five people were killed and two others critically injured in a collision between two trucks in the mountainous area of DI Khan district of K-P on Sunday.
Rescue 1122 officials told The Express Tribune that a truck laden with a container hit a Hino truck head-on when its brakes failed while ascending the mountainous Koh-e-Suliman range in Darazinda.
“The Hino truck was carrying cement. As a result of the accident five people have died, including two children. Two people were also critically injured in the crash,” said an official of the Rescue 1122, adding that a team was sent to the spot from station 55.
“This spot is notorious for its deadly accidents. Several mishaps have occurred here in the past without inviting attention from the quarters concerned,” he said, adding that the injured and the dead bodies were ferried to a nearby hospital.
Local residents demanded of the deputy commissioner Nisar Ahmad Khan to take notice of the situation and implement safety measures to prevent such deadly incidents in the future.
“There are no safety procedures in such hazardous mountainous roads where no help can reach in the event of any accident. There is no system to check the brakes of the heavy vehicles before entering the mountainous area,” they lamented.
