President Arif Alvi on Friday said that the actions of Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman regarding the provincial assembly elections were in accordance with the Constitution, as the decision of the Supreme Court also confirmed this.
“The existing problems are temporary […] the future of Pakistan will be bright, Inshallah,” Alvi said during a meeting with Rehman at the Governor House.
Earlier on the recommendation of the Election Commission, the president approved the holding of the Punjab Assembly elections on April 30. This development took place after the decision of the Supreme Court in the suo moto notice case.
The Election Commission had sent a letter to the president in the light of the Supreme Court's decision, in which the dates for holding the elections in the Punjab province were suggested from April 30 to May 7, 2023.
According to the proposal of the Election Commission, the president approved Sunday as the polling day.
The Election Commission also received a reply from the president. The Election Commission started working on the election schedule after the announcement of the polling day.
Alvi reached the Governor House where he was warmly received and welcomed by Rehman.
In the meeting between, the determination to strengthen the country and follow the Constitution and law was reiterated.
