A man killed his wife in the name of ‘honor’ in Pakpattan on Friday. The police registered a case and arrested the accused.

Yasmin Bibi, a mother of two children, ran away with Umar Daraz alias Shehbaz three months ago after her marriage soured. The deceased's father brought her back to his home a month ago. Her husband, Muhammad Arshad, took Yasmeen to his home after settling the matter with his in-laws. On Thursday night, Arshad allegedly suffocated her with a pillow. DPO Hasan Iqbal ordered local police to immediately arrest the accused as soon as the incident was reported.

The police arrested Arshad and registered a murder case against him and others. DPO Iqbal ordered SHO Abdul Ghaffar Khan to collect solid evidence regarding the incident so that the accused could be punished by the court according to the law. Police are investigating the matter.

Honour killings unfortunately remain a common occurrence within Punjab. In October 2022, a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy were murdered by the former’s father, reportedly in the name of "honour," in Kahna town. As per details, the victim ran away three days ago and stayed at the residence of her friend Adnan Maseeh, which infuriated the girl's family.

The suspect gunned the victims down on the spot.

Police transferred the bodies to a morgue for an autopsy and were investigating the matter further after collecting evidence.
