KARACHI:

No action has been taken against a government contractor who has not initiated work on a roads project around the Lyari Expressway despite receiving Rs100 million in advance payments, it has been learnt.

The Monitoring & Evaluation Cell (MEC) of Sindh Local Government Department revealed in a report that a firm, named GM Enterprises, had been awarded the Rs210 million contract for the construction of roads around the Lyari Expressway.

The contractor received 45% of money in advance payments, but carried out only 1% of work, it further revealed. The MEC report temporarily spurred the Sindh Local Government Department into action, but nothing happened, as per sources.

The sources added that the contractor has yet not started development work around the Lyari Expressway for the construction of roads. The sources fear that the Sindh Local Government Department officials might be planning to embezzle the money by hushing the MEC report.
