Former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has termed the incumbent government a “mafia”, saying that the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement is afraid of elections as every by-poll’s result is showing them their political status.
“The country’s political and economic situation is demanding immediate general election, but the entire PDM is afraid of elections,” Elahi said during a meeting with a delegation of the US House of Representatives, which called on him here.
The 12-member was headed by US Democrat leader Dr Asif Mehmood and included California Legislative Assembly’s Appropriations Committee head Chris R Holden, his wife Melanie Caldwell Holden, Dloise Gomes, Mike A Gipson, Wendy Carrillo, Christopher Reyes, Anna Goddard, Willie Armstrong, Michael Meeks, Adriel Yang and others.
Elahi told the delegation that the incompetent rulers’ gang had only one desire that somehow election should not be held. “The rulers who are heading towards breaking the Constitution are now attacking the judiciary.”

The former CM said, “[PML-N Senior Vice President] Maryam Nawaz is at the forefront of attacks on the judiciary as she is daily using objectionable and improper language in an effort that she should herself announce the courts decisions against the opponents.”
He said, “[PTI Chairman] Imran Khan is the hero of the nation. The mafia sitting in the government cannot compete with Imran Khan.” He hoped that the Supreme Court would order holding of the election in 90 days in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in accordance with the Constitution.
In the meeting, views were exchanged regarding Pak-US relations, national political situation while the delegation praised Elahi over declaring Punjab and California sister states and paid him tributes.
The delegation told Elahi that different US companies were interested to invest in Punjab in agriculture, information technology, health and education sectors.
He appreciated the role of overseas Pakistanis for their prominent role in the best Pak-US relations.
Mehmood said that he desired to work more for the stability in Pak-US relations as “Pakistan and the USA are going along with each other for decades”.
