ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to inaugurate the 100 megawatts Iran-Gwadar power transmission project in Gwadar this week in a bid to resolve the port city’s lingering electricity issue.

According to sources, the port city will import uninterrupted electricity from Iran through the power transmission project.

The Gwadar Port Authority, Gwadar Development Authority, China Overseas Port Holding Company, Balochistan Secretariat, Quetta Electric Supply Company, and National Transmission and Dispatch Company have completed their preparations in this regard.

The sources said the final testing of the 100MW power project had been done successfully.

After the inauguration of the project by the prime minister, the supply will be formally started.

A high-level delegation of Iran's Power Division had already reached Gwadar to sign the power purchase agreement with Pakistan.

They said Prime Minister Shehbaz, during his visit to Gwadar, announced plans for the first cross-stuffing facility at Gwadar Port.

He will also inaugurate the commencement of dredging at Gwadar Port and distribution of checks for boat engines to the deserving fishermen of Gwadar.

They added that new infrastructure had been put in place under the project. This includes the installation of a 29km-long double circuit 132 kV transmission line from Kalatu (Pakistani city) to the Jiwani grid station near Gabd Ramdan (Pakistan-Iran border).

A 75km-long double transmission line had already been laid from Jiwani grid station to Gwadar grid station.
