Kidnapped man recovered from Tirah

Peshawar police said kidnappers had demanded a ransom of $300,000

Peshawar police on Saturday successfully recovered a man kidnapped from Peshawar for a ransom of three lakh US dollars.

Addressing a press conference SP Saddar Division Malik Habib told reporters that the 20-year-old man was kidnapped from the jurisdiction of the Badaber Police Station on January 20, adding the kidnappers had demanded 300,000 dollars for his safe release.

He said that the victim was kept in a mountainous area in a cave in the far-flung Tirah valley of the Khyber tribal district near Orakzai.

He was kept in different places and moved frequently and subjected to torture and voice messages were sent to the family, the SP maintained, adding that the abducted man belonged to the Patrak area of Dir and was a student of a religious seminary in Peshawar.

He was invited by a facebook friend Saddam and abducted in Scheme Chowk after being injected with anesthesia, SP Habib added.

The suspects involved in the kidnapping managed to flee before the police raid leaving the kidnapped man behind, he said.

He said that the accused involved in the heinous crime have been identified and raids are being made to arrest them.
