Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (Paapam) has expressed concern over the sustainability of auto parts industry‘s operations.
At a convention held on Thursday, the parts makers decried the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for consistently charging end-users high prices and not transferring price increase on a pro rata basis.
Speaking at the event, former finance minister Dr Salman Shah said the government had failed to establish a sustainable model of industrialisation.
He advised Paapam leaders to stop seeking support of OEMs and the government and use technologies and develop partnerships for excellence in parts manufacturing instead of being held captive by any particular sector.
On the occasion, industry and financial experts discussed ways of business survival.
Paapam Senior Vice Chairman Usman Aslam Malik pointed out that exporting companies were facing problems in supplying goods to international customers due to unavailability of raw material.
He urged the government to bring major changes to the Auto Industry Development Plan (AIDP) 2022-26 by making it mandatory for assemblers to export a certain percentage of vehicles and parts.
He demanded the execution of deletion programmes in true letter and spirit with monitoring mechanisms through amendments to the AIDP.
