‘Anxious’ business owners seek reassurance

KCCI pens letter to authorities seeking clarification on law and order situation

KARACHI:

Karachi's primary business collective, the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), has written wrote to the provincial chief executive as well as heads of key law enforcement entities to share their concerns regarding law and order in the wake of the brazen attack on the Karachi police chief's office last week.

"The extreme law and order situation has triggered extreme anxiety among the members," it said of Karachi's business owners and industrialists, adding that they were considering whether to continue operating in the city.

The letter, sent on Monday, was addressed to the chief minister, the Karachi Corps commander, Pakistan Rangers' provincial director general, the Sindh police chief, and the Inter-Services Intelligence sector commander. It was signed by Tariq Yousuf, the chamber's president and Zubair Motiwala, who is the chairman of the Businessmen Group and TDAP.

In the letter, the KCCI sought a joint meeting so that they could raise their concerns and be apprised of measures to counter the threat.

It stated that the KCCI had repeatedly informed authorities of the breakdown in law and order in criminal The letter read that the Karachi Chamber had often issued warnings regarding these concerns, but despite this, no significant action was taken.
