Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA) has warned that suspects involved in illegal organ transplant would be sentenced to 10 years in prison along with a fine of Rs10 million. So far, 28 cases have been filed against the mafia involved in illegally transplanting and trafficking human organs.
In this regard, Punjab Caretaker Health Minister Dr Javed Akram participated as chief guest in an awareness seminar organised by Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA) at the Services Institute of Medical Sciences Auditorium on Tuesday.
PHOTA is conducting a grand operation against quacks and illegal organ traffickers across Punjab. Strict action is being taken against the illegal transplantation of human organs across the province.
Department of Specialised Health Care and Medical Education Additional Secretary Ashfaqul Rahman, PHOTA DG Dr Shahzad Anwar, Principal Services Institute of Medical Sciences Dr Farooq Afzal, scholars and a large number of male and female students participated.
Dr Shehzad Anwar informed attendees about the aims and objectives of the awareness seminar, while minister Dr Akram said that there was an urgent need to change people's attitudes towards donating human organs.
