Peshawar police on Tuesday arrested the security guard accused of killing lecturer Bashir Ahmed at Islamia College Peshawar.
The accused, Sher Muhammad, was arrested from the Karak district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and shifted to Peshawar for interrogation. A team of Peshawar police had been dispatched to arrest the accused.
Bashir, a senior teacher of the English Department at Islamia College University, was gunned down over a verbal dispute with the watchman.
Police told The Express Tribune that Professor Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Mardan who was currently residing at Islamia Collegiate School, had a verbal dispute with the school watchman a day before murder but later the matter was sorted out. On Sunday both of them had another scuffle.
Professor Bashir took out his pistol during the scuffle and the guard Sher Muhammad opened fire at him with his AK-47.
“He was left seriously injured and rushed to the nearby KTH where he succumbed to his injuries,” said a police official, adding that the accused managed to escape after committing the crime.
Police opened an investigation into the case after registering an FIR on the complaint of the deceased’s brother.
