Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has said that the government’s top-most priority is the development of agriculture sector.
Addressing the deans at the Centre of Advanced Studies, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Saturday, the minister emphasised that reconstruction of the agriculture sector on scientific lines would not only usher in a new era of export-led growth, but also ensure food security.
He said that the UAF being the mother of all agricultural institutions should take the lead in reforming the agriculture sector with tangible research work, community services and transformation of research into goods and services.
He recommended that research and its findings should reach farmers, stakeholders and industries for laying the foundation of a knowledge-based economy.
In this regard, the government is planning to organise a research contest among universities.
