KARACHI:

A man was shot dead while resisting a street crime outside the house of his sister in North Karachi on Thursday. Muzammil Ahmed, 35, was visiting his sister along with his wife and two children in Shahnawaz Bhutto Colony, North Karachi, according to Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police in whose jurisdiction the incident took place.

Muzzamil and his family were intercepted outside the house as they were leaving on a motorcycle. The two armed men on a motorbike pulled up near them, police said, with one of them snatching the handbag from Muzammil's wife.

In the melee, Muzammil lost his balance and the motorcycle toppled over. During this, one of the men fired his weapon. The bullet hit Muzammil, who sustained a fatal neck injury. His wife and children were injured in the fall but were not shot. Muzammil was a resident of PIB Colony and a welder by profession.

He was the only brother of five sisters. Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police registered a case on the complaint of the deceased's sister Raheela. They said two empty shells of a 9mm handgun were found at the crime scene.

Police have obtained video footage from the CCTV cameras installed in the street for the investigation. Muzammil is the 17th person to have been killed due to street crime this year in Karachi.
