QUETTA/PESHAWAR:

Two miners were killed in separate incidents in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Wednesday.

In the first incident in Balochsitan’s Khuzdar district, a coal mine suddenly caved in, killing a miner on the spot.

District administration told The Express Tribune that the tragic accident took place in Dakhla, Wadh in district Khuzdar.

“The victim has been identified as Adul Jalil Bazranzai. The unfortunate man was working deep inside the mine when it suddenly collapsed due to lack of safety measures,” said the official, adding that the body was taken out of the pit and shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Khuzdar.

It was later handed over to the family.

Chief Minister Balochsitan Abdul Quddus Bizinjo took notice of the incident and directed Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to speed up the rescue operation.

He expressed sorrow over the demise of the miner in the incident.

The family of the victim claimed that these tragic incidents were happening across the province due to lack of safety measures and negligence without inviting any attention from the quarters concerned.

“Most of the accidents happen due to the explosions caused by poisonous gases. As a result mines collapse. There should be proper equipment to detect these gases,” a miner Zanjir Gul said.

By the same token, a miner was killed and another was critically injured in the Akhorwal area of Darra Adam Khel in Kohat district.

Rescue 1122 said that a miner, identified as Khan Muhammad, resident of Nehang Darra Dir, was killed due to poisonous gases in the mine. His co-worker, Najeeb, tried to rescue him but he also fell unconscious and got injured.

Later rescuers pulled out the body of the deceased collier and saved his injured colleague.

Local residents said that both the friends were from Nehang Darra area of Dir Upper who reached Darra Adam Khel to work in the coal mines a few months ago.

The body of the deceased was sent to his ancestral town for burial.
