ISLAMABAD:

The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) is considering establishing a trade facilitation centre and an expo centre here in the federal capital for the promotion of exports and investments in the country.

“We have submitted proposals for these two projects to the higher authorities of the TDAP for consideration,” a senior official of TDAP, Aasim Nawaz Tiwana told APP on Saturday.

He said that the cost of the expo centre would be Rs2 billion while the cost of the trade facilitation centre would be Rs100 million.

He expressed the hope that after completion of these two projects, they would help promote trade and investment in the country.

Tiwana said that the TDAP has also established its office in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) which will facilitate local traders and exporters and improve their businesses in the region.

He said that the TDAP is also planning to organise a mango and fruit gala in the federal capital for the development of the sector.

He said that in collaboration with the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), the TDAP has established Wexnet for encouraging women exporters and businesswomen.

Tiwana also said that the TDAP is also planning to hold a furniture exhibition in Mirpur (AJK) this year.

He said that some information and administrative cells have been established at the TDAP to facilitate the traders and exporters.

He said that the business community has appreciated the TDAP for this initiative to resolve their problems. The authority is also facilitating the business community in participating in international expos and holding business-to-business meetings for the benefit of the country, he added. APP

Meekal Ahmed | 13 years ago | Reply This is good news -- 62 years too late. However, let me make one comment at the expense of offending some people. I have seen some but those who have visited many of these so-called expo-centers abroad bemoan the fact that our exports are POORLY presented. If your export displays are crappy, you are not going to get people to even walk in the door leave alone place orders. We have some bright young women in Pakistan now (maybe men too) who are designers and know something about presentation, lighting, color, displays and so on. PLEASE hire them, pay them well and they will guide you. The returns from a good display will be manifold.
