Police on high alert over terror threat

Sensitive buildings fortified, photographs of terrorists circulated

LAHORE:

A resurgent wave of terrorism is feared across the country, prompting the authorities in Punjab to boost security arrangements. In view of the increased threats, Punjab Police has been put on high alert and photos of suspected terrorists have been circulated.

According to sources, there is a risk of terrorist attack in all major cities of Punjab including Lahore, Narowal, Okara, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Multan among others.

After Peshawar blast, police were put on high alert, with sensitive police offices in Punjab being treated as potential targets. Threat letters and the photos of terrorists were circulated within police forces in Punjab, with letters issued by security agencies.

A copy of the threat alert was pasted outside Investigation Headquarters Qila Gujjar Singh along with photographs of the terrorists. Officials were ordered to remain alert and be vigilant of their surroundings.

The security of the investigation headquarters was increased. Lahore CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana and DIG Operations Lahore Afzal Ahmed Kausar said search and sweep operations are ongoing and the security of important buildings has been increased.
