Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed on Friday the need for full implementation of the decisions of the Apex Committee, saying that safety and security of the people was the foremost responsibility of the government.
The prime minister chaired an important meeting on the law and order situation in the country. He warned that no lapse in security would be tolerated. He directed Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to visit the four provinces with a view to improving coordination between the Centre and the provinces.
The meeting reviewed the issues related to security in the four provinces as well as Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). He directed that effective measures should be taken to improve the efficiency of counter-terrorism departments (CTDs) in all the provinces.
The law-enforcement agencies should be equipped with modern weapons and equipment,” he stressed. “The safety of the citizens is the primary responsibility of the government. There is no room for negligence in this regard,” Shehbaz said. No security breach will be tolerated.”
The meeting was informed about the steps being taken to further streamline safe city projects in the big cities. On instructions of the prime minister, the officials said, the federal interior secretary visited the four provinces and looked into issues faced by the provinces and reviewed requirement for resources.
